Wow. I finally found one of my bucket list Civil War relics, but I would have never expected to find this one. From the research I've done, it seems this is a pretty darn rare buckle/plate. It has N. O. on the bottom signifying New Orleans. If anyone knows anything about this one, please let me know. It's for sure a buckle with the Louisiana State Seal used by the 5th Washington Artillery Unit, which I believe is the oldest standing artillery unit in America to this day.

WOW, I agree a rare plate, does it have any hooks still on the back apparently most of the ones recovered don't have the hooks any longer?

Here's a link to one that for sale for $4450 and yours other than it being bent looks to be be in much better shape, the bend can be repaired but I don't know if I would brother!!

Louisiana Belt Plate - New Orleans Style

I vote BANNER on this one!!

If it has only one period between the N & O, In Millinax it's plate # 290

I've seen it listed from $3600 to 4500 dollars. This one appears to be in way better shape, and it doesn't have any cracks. I'll post a photo of the back.

Literally a find of a lifetime. About as cool a CW relic as you could ever hope to dig. Congrats.
