Went out for a few hrs today. I dug a bunch of wheaties, a bit of clad, a Lincoln $1 coin, and these three keepers. The silver war nickel was nice to see, I primarily aim for old silver. While it's not that old, I'll take it. The silver ring is marked Sterling, but the gold ring has no marks. It looks to be well worn, maybe the marks wore off. I found it near where an old school once stood (1904-1970's), and I think the ring might be pretty old. It rang in on the Pro at 51-53. There is a crack in the back of the band, and it looks like solid metal. My gut tells me it's gold, and if it is....it's the first real gold ring I have found in 5 years of detecting. Any thoughts?

Looks like a sweet Victorian era signet ring. It's gold for sure. Nice save.

Looks like the real deal to me. Definitely late 1800's era signet ring. Beautiful find.

Looks like Gold !!! To me, but a scratch / acid testing kit would help you know a bit more.

Looks like gold to me! If it was plated or gold filled it would not look good after being in the ground. Gold imitations would have shown signs of peeling and corrosion. Very nice find!

no doubt in my mind that ring is gold. I would also say that it probably dates to the early 1920's

Great finds, jeweler would test it for no charge, I had a chain find in the spring, swore it was gold, I took it to the jeweler and come to find out it was brass.

Sure looks like gold! Congrats!

If it's heavy for it's size and there is no color change where the crack is it's gold.
Get yourself a test kit, then you will know.

Rub it in the palm of your hand for a couple of seconds until it heats up. Smell of it...if its copper or brass it will have an odor, if its gold it will have no smell at all. Looks gold to me.
