We had some heavy rain last night, so I dragged myself out of bed at 7 AM and went for a short hunt. Good idea, since I ended up finding my oldest U.S. coin ever! It's a really toasted 1803 draped bust cent! It was only about 5 inches down and in a spot I've checked at least 5 times over the last few weeks. Wet ground can really make a difference!

Here's a few pics. Trust me, it really is an 1803 draped bust cent! LOL!

Congrats on the Draped Bust. Keep at it and I'm sure you will find an older US coin.

I can definitely relate to that! I found a LC a couple of weeks ago and I still don't know what it is! No detail at all on it. That's why I'm pretty excited about this toasted LC. Figuring out the type and the date is a huge accomplishment for me. As you can tell, the ground isn't too kind to the LC's I'm finding in this spot!

Thanks! You're right, I should appreciate finding them in any condition. After all, it is a 211 year old coin that's probably been in the ground for 200 years. It's amazing that there's any detail left on it at all. HH.

congrats man! Now you have to break into the 1700s!

You never know, it could happen at any time! There should be a lot of colonial coppers in the ground around here in RI. The rainy season is coming up, so that should help me out.
