Solid 14K Gold Thimble, Connecticut Copper, KG III, 3 IH's, Colonial button

Finally had a chance to get out and do some detecting today. This was my maiden voyage with the CTX 3030. Nice machine---good balance and very stable. Think it will definitely be a keeper. Found the KG III at 6 inches with no problem at all. One area was extremely iron infested so I brought out the Deus and picked out a few more goodies including the Connecticut copper and the gold thimble.

If anyone is familiar with the hallmark, please let me know.

Thanks again George!!

That's an awesome find. People must have had some money. I would hammer that spot and dig everything.

Your thimble was made by Simons Bros. in Philadelphia. Probably around the turn of the 20th Century.

The firm existed from 1840, and I believe they are still in business today.

Nice find.

HERE is a link to their current offerings of gold and silver thimbles.

Simons Bros. Co. thimble--indeed.
Here's some history:
Born in 1819, George Washington Simons started his business in 1839. The City Directory for Philadelphia in 1842 had him listed as a manufacturer of gold and silver thimbles and pencil cases. His brother, P. Boneil Simons later known as Peter B. was also listed in the directory and later joined his brother in the business. The company grew rapidly in the next 20 years, expanding into manufacturing many other gold and silver items.
In 1893, Simons Bros. and Co. received a medal and award at the Columbian Exhibition. The award inscribed "Gold and Silver Thimbles For a Variety of Designs, Beautiful Patterns Studded with Gems, Fine Chasing, Quality of Jewels and Fine workmanship and Finish."
Don....
