I spent 6 hours 45 minutes on Brooch Field & Dad helped for a few hours (1 holed cartwheel, 3 of the scrappies, & a bracelet fragment).
This is one of our best fields but we have really hammered over the years. It was pretty much left alone last year & this year it had a shallow plough, enough to grid it again.
The magic grid worked today & I had my first double treasure (declareable items) day:headbang:

18 scrappies, takes us to 999 this year, so far....
Another save from the lead scrap pile - a carved rampant Lion (Roman)
Roman Bracelet Frag
3 Fibula
Lead Token
1st C Romano-Celtic Toggle (my first complete one of this type) - Rare
Solid Silver Roman Ring (Treasure)
Roman Silver & Gold Plated Hair Pin (Treasure)

Great Day, I thinks...

Amazing finds from that field! :notworthy: 999 coins and it's just september! Treasure means you have to wait 18 months to get the ring and the hairpin back?

Crusader Your frequent roman find make thousands of across droule in our sleep!!! Nice stuff.. I am coming to England next week .If a tour bus stops in front of your Brooch field and this little guy gets off would there be any chance he could borrow your spare detector? You and the Queen can have everything I find I just want the pictures!!

Wow , Outstanding day ! Are the fibulas a bronze alloy ? The "cross" type marking on the ring - any idea if it's related to Christianity ?

You will have to ask Land-Mag, he uses my spare detector. I wish he hadn't as about the only thing he had was the only thing I hadn't got. (Roman Silver):laughing7:

They are all bronze, but the right one has traces of tinning (silver).

Unlikely the cross is Christian, as I believe this is a 1-2nd C type. Its a bit worn but it was basically a star burst pattern.

Nice finds. Can you imagine how 2005 Time Team would have acted on an episode if they had found that pin.

I understand you calling those items "treasure" but to someone like me, they all are treasure, just some are more so than others, as always with the awesome finds
