A Little Silver & A Ring

It's starting to get dark earlier, so the after work hunts are getting shorter. I hit an old lot last night, had about an hour and 20 minutes. I wasn't expecting much, just a little relaxing swing and maybe a coin or two. I have hit this place several times, so all of the easy targets are gone. I decided to dig anything that sounded close to a high tone. Got a wheatie, some trash, clad, trash, you know the routine. I got a faint deep tone, dug down, and out came a nickel... but wait a minute, it has a bit of silver on it. I wipe it off and see the date... 1943P war nickel. NICE. I continue on... two holes later... faint high tone. I dig down about 6" and I see a silver dime in the hole... 1944 Merc. Two silver coins in one day is good for me.

I also dug a ring, looks like the 40s or 50s to me, but I don't really know. It is silver plated junk. I got a half dozen wheaties and a little copper plate with ears on it... I have no idea what it was used for, guesses are welcomed.

I also included a pic of a '25 wheatie and a '40 nickel that I dug at the site last week. The 1940 nickel is too old to be silver and too new to a buffalo... just my luck...

Sweet silver..and not a bad ring! I always enjoy the rush pulling a ring out..hoping it is gold, or coated with diamonds..etc. Your hunt is similar to the one I had Wednesday..at a 1850's farmhouse on my road. First target: 43 war nickel..then a 1941..ugh..then proceeded to haul in about ten wheaties. Was almost finished and heading towards the car..yep-one of those "heading to the car" finds. Scratchy, bouncy, iffy signal on the ATP..bouncing from 75-89. Almost didn't dig it, just another wheat/memorial..BUT..at 6 inches..so I cut a plug, and at 5-6 inches down..my FIRST SILVER WASHINGTON QUARTER!! A beautiful 1943 specimen..did the happy dance. THEN...I found out exactly why the signal was scratchy and bouncy..because there was a 1898 Barber quarter 2 inches from the Washington!! Woo Hoo!! SCORE!! That was like 3 firsts right there!! first silver quarter, first barber quarter and two silver quarters in the same hole. Congratulations on your latest multiple silver nights! You are quickly catching up to me in the silver coins. Of course I don't count nickels just real silver coins of 80% or more silver content. LOL I might get out for a couple hours this afternoon and see what I can find. Might head back up to that field and I do have one house to hunt. Not sure which I'll get to if I am able to get out.
