Sterling Boy Scout Ring

Went to the city park of a small town of about 1000 people. Figured I'd test the waters because I'm in need of new turf. Dug my share of clad for about 3 hours, but nothing much older than the '70's. I was about to call it quits. I had to walk up a lengthy hill to get to my car, so I went to the middle of the hill and swung my way up. Half way up I got that sweet high tone, so I dug, and out pops the sterling scout ring. My first piece of scouts memorabilia! I did my happy dance then decided to hang out a bit more. On the other side of the park near a tree I got my second piece of scouts memorabilia. I guess its a neckerchief slide. I found a wee bit more clad before calling it a day. I haven't had a chance to research either item. Y'all happen to about when these things were made? Thanks for looking and happy hunting out there!

Oh yeah. I made the rookie mistake of trying to bend out the band. Snap!

That is a beautiful silver ring. Just curious, what machine are you swinging?

The bounty hunter quicksilver. I plan to upgrade to the atpro as soon as it's economically feasible. ...and the wife lets me ;)

Well, the munchkin is off to bed. Thanks for all the nice comments. I believe the ring is from the 30's or 40's. Can anyone verify if the slide could be from the same era?

My first ring I ever found was that very same ring! Nice find!
That's really cool! Scout memorabilia has been on my wish list for awhile. I hope that I've stumbled on a former scouts camping area.

kinda rushed today, so I didn't search it, but try this site:
www.VirtualScoutMuseum.com
the neckerchief slide is a Webelos level slide (We Be Loyal Scouts) - it's the last level in Cubs before crossing over into Boy Scouting. There are a LOT of slides out there as it's almost impossible to keep one on an active scout, rings less so - less bought, harder to lose.
Nifty finds!

Neat ring. I had the exact same ring in 1963. I melted mine when I went through the early "melting metal stage":icon_thumright:

Nice BSA ring. Do you think it can be fixed?

I used to love boy scouts when I was a kid, but I lived in an area where the support was fairly spotty. So I dreamed of being a scout quite often, and I always seems to have a subscription (paid for by?) to Boy's Life. I would love to find a ring like that, I am so jealous! Grats! :occasion14:

I was in the cubs scouts for a short stint. Our pack leader embezzled our funds so I got turned off early. I did read the manuals though. Nobody has built a better raft out of ready materials than me in temporary company to date :)
