I got out for an hour or so after work to our new spot "button hill" and pretty much stayed put in an iron infested area and worked it really slow. Ended up getting 8 more buttons to add to the collection, which puts my total up to 152 buttons. One of the buttons being a very nice(minus the small bend on the top) Virginia button. It has a beautiful dark patina. Feels good to dig up some CS brass since my last was in March with the CS tongue. Also got an old iron knife blade(typical of the area) and part of a shoe buckle. Gridding this place out will take a while. Plus when we get moisture(whenever that may happen) we will definitely pull out more targets. Thanks for looking and HH!

You did GOOD with that button! Wonder why there are so many buttons at that place? What is your opinion?

That center button is very neat! Feels good to get the detector in hand after work doesn't it. I have training all this week where I just sit and listen to a talking head and dream about finding some treasure, ha! I went out for hour today myself and ended up finding a Barber quarter...very nice ending to a boring day for sure.

That site is still giving up the goods. I'd love to see all of your buttons from this site in one group picture.

Nice going on the Va button Matt. Looks like I can see plenty of gilt. That should motivate you to dig more of the buttons that I'm sure remain undug at your very productive site.

Matt, that's a nice VA button. The face shows great detail. Dman dug one at a DIV and some guys who lived out there told him that they had never dug one. Is there no end of buttons on that hill? People used to save buttons from clothes & put them in jars for future use but even if a jar was broken there, that's a bunch of buttons. WTG, Q.

Thanks Quindy. Yeah, va buttons dug in Virginia are not that common. Although I have dug 3 in just 3 years of detecting. But it's more ny buttons, gs buttons, eagle i and eagle c buttons. And Bill, not gilt left...the dirt in the picture just kinda looks like gilt. It has a nice black patina.

That's a handful of buttons to be had from one place, nice dig! I thought for a moment the part of the shoe buckle was part of a gun tool.

That's what's great about sites with a lot of buttons... military finds is usually just a numbers game so if you keep popping buttons some marked ones eventually show up. Our early sites here give up a lot of buttons and it's always the thing that keeps me going because every time you find one you have a chance... and as you see it's also what keeps a site alive. Once you have that place completely pounded it's sad in a way when you go back and it's a struggle to just dig a few targets, and anyone you take there can never imagine how it was in the beginning.

Very nice example of a button we don't see posted very often. I wonder if most were found in the glory days of detecting? I really wish I had been able to detect in the 70's when I wanted to. Is that frame part of a buckle?

Yes, it is sad that a few of the hot spots don't have an awesome signal every swing. We haven't really explored on the other side of the electric fence yet. So we are hoping for another hot spot over on that side.

Matt, I'm curious about that shoe buckle fragment Looks like it might match this pattern, which has turned up on two French & Indian War sites in western PA. I have found the pattern on both shoe and knee buckles

Matt, I can't see the corner too clearly, but the rest seems to be the same pattern. I am sure based on the sites these buckles have turned up, and how many of them turned up, that these buckles were standard issue to some regiment of John Forbes army in 1758.
