I found part of an old pewter spoon yesterday and can use some help. I would really like to know how old it is (just a rough estimate). I found it about six inches down and under a very large tree root, so it must be pretty old.

It's definitely pewter, but the handle has an iron reinforcing rod going through it. It has a scalloped design on the back and is heavy for it's size. Any help as to the age would be appreciated.

Here's a couple of pics:

The sea shell design where the handle meets the bowl indicates that this spoon dates from the Georgian era or just after.

Thanks for that info! I guess I'll be going back to that spot ASAP! We've had a lot of rain over the last few days, so tomorrow should be a good day for hunting. Thanks again!

Congrats Tim. Looks like a likely spot for some very slow and meticulous swinging. Good luck.

Thanks, guys! Your help and advice paid off big today! Only dug two relics at this spot, but they are both really cool! I'll post them in a new thread ASAP.
