Civil war three ringer

Hello guys. Well I think I have a three ringer civil war bullet. Found it in an unlikely field behind a friends house. Meaning no civil war history to it. I'm sure a lot if people in here will no exactly what bullet this is. It looks pretty big but I'm no expert on bullets that's for sure. Any help on recognition would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hey congrats on your first CW bullet. That's sure enough a Civil war era "minie ball" named after the frenchman who designed it. A three ringer in .58 cal. Look up in the hole . . . does it end in a "point"? Conical? Or can you see a tiny star, or a flat disc? Those could narrow the exact variety. If no CW activity, perhaps troops marched by. terms of the surrender allowed Confederates to keep their rifles, so it could have come from a veteran who got his hands on some yankee ammo and shot that bullet at a deer after the war. Just a theory . . .

Thanks so much for getting back to me. It's hard to tell being that it's smashed but it looks conical more then anything .. No offense taking btw I appreciate your knowledge

Looks like a .58 caliber. If it's not a civil war area it was probably just shot off in the old days for target practice or possibly to get some food.
