I found a house that was being gutted! Everything from the house was being tossed in a big dumpster. I grabbed all the bags I could find and a few boxes. I just got done looking though all of them. Out of the 300 pounds of junk - I found these 4 pieces of treasure!
First I found the 1958 Israeli 93.5% Silver medal, I assumed that was all I would find so I posted the story to Treasurenet at around 8:30pm today. Little did I know I would find more treasure in those bags! Next thing to pop out was the World War One New York "Field Service Medal", I was happily surprised, another medal, awesome! And in the little box with the World War One medal was a little silver medal labeled "Putting Shot" (whatever that means).
I looked through more bags but didn't find much more than a few clad coins, the occasional wrist watch, pocket knife, there was even an old Zippo lighter. As the next to last bag was almost empty I saw a little black box in the bag that I didn't see at first becasue it was black and blended in with the bag. I took it out and I saw an Iron Cross emblem painted on the top. I thought..."Could this be a...?" I opened the box... staring right up at me was something I thought I would never ever in a million years ever see - a WWII German Iron Cross Medal, complete with Nazi Swastika. I was stunned. Stunned! I had not been this stunned in a looong time. I have never found a Nazi artifact like this in my entire life, to think this was once owned by a German during the war - I love this sort of find, becasue there was no way in a hundred years I could afford to buy one of these - and now I don't have to! I love war medals!
