Virginia Militia cuff button centennial buckle?

The cuff button i found the other day but did not know what it was..A fellow tneter told me what it was. Then CBG elaborate on it...Just thought i would put this on a new post for people to see..Also got out yesterday and found this buckle..Not sure if its a buckle or a badge the held something Any help would be great..

Great finds, it's going to be like Christmas eve tonight. Why would a suppender buckle have a centennial date on it? Of course what do i know, wasn't that long ago i didn't even know what a War Nickel was, lol.

I've seen one of these suspender buckles posted before. I believe they were an item from the 1876 Centennial Exposition which was held in Philadelphia

Because you requested, I'll comment.
1- The slot in the buckle looks a bit less than 1 inch wide, which means it could only hold a strap about 3/4 or maybe 7/8 inch wide... seems too narrow for a suspenders-strap.
2- The buckle is very thin sheetbrass, and has tiny tabs whose hole-edge is only 1/32 inch wide... too "light-duty" for the weight stress of holding up pants.

So, it seems to not be a suspenders buckle... but instead, something for "light-duty" service, such as a sock-garter buckle. As shown at upper right in the photo below, the tongue on it would hold the cord of the sock-garter. Note that the tongue is small and thin-bodied, which means it couldn't withstand much weight-stress... unsuitable for use as a suspenders-strap buckle.

But, if it is a sock-garter buckle, why have it an emblem which would not be visible (hidden under the pants-leg) when the buckle was being worn? Nobody would know about the Bicentennial emblem except the buckle's owner.

Jewelerguy said he has seen one of those "suspender buckles" previously, related to the Bicentennial Exposition. Hopefully he can remember where he saw it, or somebody else here has a photo or advertisement-drawing showing this buckle "in use" on whatever else it was a part of. That would settle the ID question with certainty.

Thanks CBG..I believe its from the centennial convention that was in Philadelphia in 1876..Do you think it could be from a ribbon that was held on it.

The thing that is odd to me is that it appears to have tabs with mounting holes on each side. If it was a buckle ( as the shape appears to be ), why or what would it be mounted to?

OK, once I found pics of the other post, I can see these tabs were bent backwards and held the other piece of the suspender buckle.
