Roman Rural Site...

[CRUSADER]

Dad & I spent 2 days, 24 man hours searching 3 fields that we can now cross off, & the whole of a small Roman Site that we haven't done in years. It went to the bottom of the list as it had less than 40 bronze coins, 0 silver, & about 4 artefacts. But now that options are getting less we gave it a final go over.
I'm very pleased we did;

My fav find & one that deserved a sticky boot jig - Sestertius of Crispina AD182 - just over 1 oz of bronze!

I just updated, its one of those late Roman Military buckles (well about 1/3rd of one).

We rarely get the big Sestertius up here, unless you can get near one of the major roads, like the A1 then they turn up, probably more of a Soldiers type of coin, I like the horse head buckle, shame it wasn't complete.

I've never had this type or the dolphin type buckles complete, I would really love to get one.

Yeap that the one on Dads slip. But mine is 34mm & a whopping 28.36g which is our heaviest ever!

I think you need about 1000 hours in the right places. (roughly by our stats)

28 g is the top of the weight for a Brass Sestertius, typically between 25 to 28 grammes, is around 32–34 mm in diameter and about 4 mm thick.

Yeap, & it must have been heavier without the wear, maybe close to 29!

Great finds ! That Crispina is so nice with that patina , almost 2000 years in the dirt barely laid a glove on it !! "sticky boot jig" sounds like a good single malt
to me ! (is there a bad single malt ?)

No hypercource or box title on this site but it had some large roof tile frags not pictured. Not sure if you have heard but Teamteam are out of business, the Cru'team however.....
