On our way back to NC from NY Smittyman and I stopped at a home built in 1808 that we had permission to hunt. The pickins were slim. Smittyman managed to pull a 1902 Barber dime. I found a 1936 Merc and a pretty sterling silver spoon. I am unable to read the letters of the monogram. I am guessing that the four digit number to the right of the 925/1000 marking might be a pattern number? No clue what the writing is to the left of the 925/1000 is though. Any help or suggestions or information about the spoon would be greatly appreciated. I would love the information for the display case.

On the east coast silversmiths started making and marking 925/1000 on sterling around 1861.925/1000 means its sterling.925 parts out of 1000 is the purity.

I'm guessing you have early 20th century there 1900-1910- ish by the style of numbering and letter stamping - yes the 925/1000 is the alloy we
know as Sterling Silver (copper being the other 75/1000 in the alloy) I've always thought of silver spoons as being a very special find .

Super spoon! :icon_thumleft:

I think it is the same pattern as these-

S KIRK & SON CO STERLING 6" TEASPOON 4 PIECE SILVER

S. KIRK & SON CO STERLING SILVER TEASPOONS
SET OF 4
6" Long*
1.07 Ounces Each*
* Length and Weight Are Approximate*
WINSLOW PATTERN
#3487
MONOGRAM READS FWM
HALLMARK READS S. KIRK & SON CO STERLING 925/1000 3487
AGED 1896-1924

My friend I believe you nailed it right on the head! I do not have a scale that measures in small denominations but the spoon does weigh just over 1 ounce. And it appears the S. Kirk & S has been worn down leaving the ON CO part of the hallmark. You guys always amaze me with how quickly ya'll can identify stuff.
Thank you very much!

I don't know, Rich. Mr. Minelab pulled a 1902 Barber at this site so it's a toss-up there.

Man, steel wool really cleans silver up, doesn't it? J/k...did you " hillbilly zap " it as Treb says? Looks a bit pitted but definitely a nice big piece of silver. I bet if you had to buy groceries from your spoon and da man's Barber, he'd be hungry long before you!
