Old ball fields are good

I had 2-hours to kill so I went to an old ball field to seek my fortune.

Since I'm partial to tick-infested woods, I started my hunt where behind
home plate would have been over 100-years ago and after about 15-minutes,
I got a nice "dime" signal that quickly materialized into a 1913 Barber Dime.

As I moved hunt into where the infield would have been, (which is now cut grass)
I ended up with with a 1940 Merc, a 1953 Washington, a 1958 Washington coin ring
and a sterling ring from Mexico. Oh, and about 8 Wheaties from the 20's thru the 50's.

Old ball fields are awesome places to find old coins I have an old baseball field in my park I have found lots of silver and rings...pound that place good ...

Great digs. I've tried working an old ball field near my work and only dig up tabs and cans. Not as old as the one your working but still in the 50-60yrs old, just no luck yet. Guess i'll give it another go in the spring after seeing your finds.

O yea, I have pillaged a couple ball fields around here, while I started detecting again just this year (after a 15 year hiatus-twins..) I figured the place would be pounded. BUT..I hit target after target, mostly clad coins, but what truly amazed me was the sheer amount of quarters I was digging. There was one area about 20x20 feet that coughed up about a half roll of quarters! Like someone had opened a new roll twenty years ago and just threw them up into the air. Ended up with almost 40 quarters that first day, along with a ton of dimes and actually didn't dig many penny signals due to the amount of better clad I was finding..but on subsequent trips I did clean up the pennies basically to rid them to locate deeper targets. It was at this same ball field that I found my first silver (ring), a silver bracelet and one nice 1954 Rosie. I still go back there as a back-up, and still surprise myself. Wow, a coin ring is pretty rare to find anywhere, looks like a kid made that one -or it was never finished .

Nice finds.
My first hunt was an old ball field and I immediately dug up a 10K band. That made me think this was easy for a short time.
Beginners luck never crossed my mind.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

I went back out there again yesterday for a couple of hours to see what else might be hidden
and I was pleasantly surprised what I recovered (understatement).

Most of my recoveries in the 3"-4" ended up being mem Cents & alumininum tabs, but the
deeper targets (a few) included a 1964 Rosie and a 1950 Franklin Half Dollar. My best find
of the day. . . about 10"-deep. . . was a Melvin Purvis "Special Operator" badge that was
issued as a Post Cereal premium back in 1937. If you recall, Purvis led the manhunts that
put John Dillinger to rest back in 1934.
