Detecting at friend's place, last hunt of the year.

It was cold, almost too cold for detecting. This field was full of nice targets and we dug the shallow ones out. The ground was frozen solid so we left all the deeper targets.

Days are getting shorter. it was dark at 6pm.

Gold gilt button. 1800's military.

A coin lying right on the surface. Still took a good while to get it out.

Turns out to be a decent condition 5p 1898.

Nice old buckle. 1700's maybe ???

All in all quite a horrible hunt to be honest. I'll get back to you next summer. :laughing7:

Happy hunting! :icon_thumright:

Yes, the buckle looks like a 17th C Spur Buckle.

The rest is OK.:occasion14:

Nice finds.
I personally hate cold weather and I can totally relate to your "last hunt".
It's just no fun when it's cold, at least, not for me.

Congrats on your last hunt finds regardless.

Yesterday was the first hunt for me of this fall when the old running nose made it's first appearance. I hope your winter seems short for you. Watching others getting to continue hunting is a little bittersweet at best.

We are pitch black by 6:00pm too. I'm still able to dig the ground, probably have another week until it freezes up. I think your hunt was pretty good!

Thanks everyone for checking out my post. Everything has melted and it's like summer again. I've dug 3 coins this week so forget about the last hunt thing for now. :tongue3: We'll get some more stuff out of that field next weekend. And no need for dynamite this time.

Great hunt, but unfortunately I don't think that button is as old as you think, and it's also not military.

I only know because I posted one earlier this year

http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/what/413641-can-anyone-figure-out-button.html

There are many buttons similar to this made for different purposes. I need to do some research on it. You might be right on the age though because these were made later as well.

There's one. Not identical.
