Found a little bit of clad earlier in the afternoon but decided to move to a spot that had seen more traffic in the past. Got serious with some digging of lower signals was hoping for some gold today. Got a solid 08 conductive reading and decided to try it. After making my ground entry via screwdriver slit I pried some more dirt out and still had to get a bit deeper pried again and out popped a clod of dirt with a light yellowish looking ring that was very dirty !

On cleaning up the ring at home I was in for a nice surprise !

I find rings are much harder to get a decent photo of than coins. On looking at the band with my 10x loupe a 10k mark was visible. The photo of the back may or may not be good enough to see the "Copy" then 1983 on the back side. Does this mean the coin is not gold then or is it 10K like the band? Tried to examine it with my loupe and it looked to be better than electroplated base metal at least, far as I could tell it looked like gold.Still a decent find in my book !

Thanks for checking the ring out !

I can't see the word copy, but if it's on the coin it's just trying to keep it from being used in circulation.

But, as to whether the ring is gold? Best to have it tested.

In any case, a really pretty ring!

Thanks for the reply Whadifind =)
Did the acid streak test and rings band tested fine for 10K , with 14k acid the streak gets ate. Was wondering if the coin was probably same grade metal as the ring or more pure? I knew that the band was good material it was bent and I straighted it with hemostats and the material did not break. I think this ring is what some folks call a "Panda Coin" ring maybe.

Great Find Man!..That thing cleaned up nice.

Why do I always see people using screwdrivers to dig? Is it because the ground is that hard?

If the coin was a genuine Chinese Panda, and the style appears to be a 1983 10 Yuan coin, it would be 1/10th of a ounce of .999 fine gold. As it is marked "COPY", it would be highly unlikely that it is genuine.

Thanks D-N-D !
This place has what I call jungle grass, not sure its proper name but it has very many roots and they get quite big, if you cut them the grass just dies off.

Sweet ring ! The Panda coin ring I found this year turned out to be 14k just like the ring was . It was not marked copy but was not a real 24k gold coin . Yours might be 10k or 14k . Gold is gold my friend ! Congrats
Glen

In my case it is because some parks will run you out with a digger. So I use a screwdriver to pop out shallow finds. It doesn't disturb the grass hardly at all. No harm no foul.
