Hi,
My wife and I took a 35 minute trip up the mountain this afternoon to get a little quite time. Of course I took my dectector and spent the 3 hours searching the sand. My wife was busy just sitting and looking at the scenery and talking on the phone. I found a lot of clad, but I found a buffalo nickel. It a 1913 with an s on the back. Does anyone now the value?

Thanks for looking!

Looks like a Type 1 to me, hard to judge value, as it appears to have a little environmental damage. Still pretty sharp for a dug coin. I'd guess about $20 on value. Just a guess.

To me it looks to be in extremely fine condition. It's hard to tell by the picture if there is any corrosion. The back looks great! Being that it's a type 1,If there were no corrosion I would put a value between $60 and $80 on it. Awesome find!!!!

I decided to clean up my buff. I soaked it in vinegar for 2 hours, then rubbed it with baking soda and water. It cleaned it up quite a lot, but it looks more deterated than I thought. Take a look. What do you think?

Nice coin and love Lake Tahoe, my oldest son was born there when I worked at the Horizon Casino. Wish I was detecting way back then.

Not a bad looking coin, probly not too valuable though, being in dug condition

Still cool though!

Can someone clarify for me if he found it on private property is ok to keep , but if he found it on State or Federal property it would be a an artifact and he would have to leave it because of its age?

Don't know about the California side. I know Nevada is ok with anything you find.
