Dad & I spent 6 hours in T-Shirt weather, it was actually a little too warm for me today & the last day in Oct!
We went to one of our furthest sites which we could only do 1 trip on as the wheat is starting to grow & this owner wants us off it. The conditions on this field, which is one of our best was perfect. The rolled clay was compact & wet underneath. I was getting great depth & picked up many of the small minums we had missed before.
Another great result:

37 Scrappies
1 Nice Roman, Dad IDing, as its very light for a Follis - dug at over 10"
1 Hammered
1 Roman Silver (poor condition, will clean & photo later) - Update - pretty good condition now!
CNUT 1016-1035 Viking Penny - Short Cross Type
1839 Sixpence
Saxon Pinhead
Frag of Saxon Strapend
Frag of Roman Ring
Tudor Button

Killer bronze! That makes a great day out, well you tend to have a thick layer of icing always.

Shame that the Saxon is mangled, it would have been a nice one. Nice finds all around, thanks for sharing!

Crazy weather isn't it :icon_scratch: But I heard there is a sting in the tail coming back end of this month. You took advantage and it paid of, shame about the Saxon penny, but a lot come out smashed up that way, some great detail on the roman though.

Nice haul.

Is the Cnut coin definitely a penny? I think there were some half pence produced for Cnut and it looks very small.

As usual, great finds.

I would LOVE to have some tee shirt weather BTW. It's raining, windy and cold here.
on top of that, daylight savings ends this weekend which means no more after work hunts during the week.

I hate winter.

Its a light Follis of Maximinus II AD210-213. Its the first one of this Emperor & being an Eastern Emperor, we wouldn't expect it over here. It was however, minted just up the road from you, Trier.

UPDATE:

Added Roman Coin pictures. I was surprised to see how well the Roman silver cleaned up. Shame I never did a before & after because you won't believe it. When it was found I thought it was a copper core of a fake one. It needed a whole night of lemon juice. Strange thing is once we were home & saw the silver was under & not over the copper coat we were expecting a very debased coin & it came out much better.

...Nice...Remember the Caracalla I got from the A1, exactly the same, covered in green from a tiny hole in the centre....It cleaned up nice that one. http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/today-s-finds/133323-back-road-stunning-roman-silver.html
