Now I'm an XP Deus believer

I've had the Deus for a few weeks now and was starting to regret getting rid of my E Trac. Went to a small spot today I absolutely hammered with the E Trac. Found a 35 merc, war nickel, date less buffalo, about 1.20 in clad and a civil war button. I can't believe I missed this much in a 10 foot by 20 foot area.

Great research and the ability to read sites will get you a lot further than anything else in this hobby. Yes some detectors might find a few more deep keepers than others and some will do better in the iron and trash. But stick your nose in some history books and go to old water areas and you will get good stuff. And just have fun out there. Were all lucky to be able to enjoy this great hobby

Whadifind I also own the AT Pro and for the money there's no other machine that can touch it. I bought the E Trac wanting more depth but I think in my heavily mineralized soil they are tit for tat in depth. The pro might not be in the same class as the minelabs or the Deus but the others aren't worth triple the money either in my opinion.

Exactly. Different soils, different mineralization, etc, etc. How can one expect any machine to be the best under ANY condition? The answer? They can't. The biggest key as far as I can see it is dependability and the type of targets one desires to find!

On the dependability factor? I'd like to check back with any user to see how their machine is holding up in say, 38 years. I still have my original detector, the Groundhog. It has NEVER had to go to the shop and it still performs to this day. With the large coil I've pulled pennies out with it at over 12 inches. I bought it in '76. ;)

Like I said, use what you like but learn the in's and out's of your particular machine and learn them well! So you can understand what it's trying to tell you. :)

Great saves VA!

How does that explain my finding a silver three cent piece, sitting below 3 nails, which were situated around the sides of the hole, approximately 1 to three inches above the coin? The hole was only 4 inches across.

Oh, wait! Maybe it's because of an operator error! After all, it was in the REAL world and I probably dug because of the nails and just happened across the coin in the midst. Even though I did get a wonderful signal amongst the iron. Maybe, if I spend $2,800, I could do better. Oh well, I'll learn, maybe, someday. (something, of which, I only knew). ;)

Here's a breakdown of what matters the most when it comes to finding the good stuff:

Location: 50%
Skill: 25%
Saturation level of soil: 15%
Metal detector used: 10%

Just my opinion...

You'd know better than I, but it looks like one of those general use modern buttons. Could this be a similar type button but for 1800's?

:dontknow:

Good point. The test in the video was between the CTX and the Deus, not the AT Pro. I have the AT Pro and the Deus, and they both separate real well. As you said, the ATP is the best, most versatile machine you can get for $600. This is evidenced real well by the enormous amount of nice finds on tnet by ATP users. There are a lot of guys on here who could afford a more expensive machine that stay with the Garrett. The deus costs 3x as much and it's not three times better. I do think it's slightly better, but that's what happens with detectors once you get to a certain price range. You pay an extra thousand for a slightly higher performance. With the CTX you pay an extra couple thousand for a little better depth but a lack of separation ability. I think Vino would agree there. He's got both and chooses one for clean ground and the other for contaminated ground.

Im going to have to chime in on this one..
I own both detectors...I love them both..
With that said, Before today i would of said that the deus cant go that deep..
Im wrong..I just got back from Andy sabisch boot camp on the deus..And wow..I learned alot..In a test garden i was finding a quarter at 12inches..Never thought it was that deep...
Now with the ctx its like driving a Cadillac
Smooth and nice...If it tells me its a silver dime at 9inch you bet ur a--- thats what it is....But when it comes to the iron and trash..It struggles!!!! No where near what the etrac does but not even half as great as the deus..
Anyway to wrap this up IMO...If you want to go pull coins out of a place thats never been hit the ctx will be a blast...If you want to go find things that other people missed in the iron and trash go get a deus...
Thats my 2cents...
George

sounds like EVERYBODY should be using the deus!..
"crap" everywhere,and i mean everywhere!

ehe! he! he! the more ya spend, the more "defensive" you become!
point is ya can do just as well with a "tesoro compadre" IF,IF, ya know the detector!
