Yeah I mentioned as thin as it was there is a chance it could be capped bust and you said "come on" as if I was being silly. lol Awesome find for our area! Your welcome,, for me sharing this site with ya. No its a good find again congrats. I was hoping you or Joe would find a LC or something, even better. Oldest coin from the site that I know of, second is a 36 LC by yours truly. Oh and Tinman turns out that's a temperance medal/ token, post tomorrow.

oldest coin so far but this year is not over yet a good two or three weeks left next time it will be a LC thanks for the invite

It is a very nice specimen of a medal by James Bale, a prominent diesinker of New York City, likely struck in the early 1840s. It looks to be brass, like most of Bale's temperance issues. His initial "B" can be seen at the base of the well, on the obverse of your specimen...

Yeah hope so, very soon that's for sure. Time to plan my visit to relatives living in warmer climate. Its a "temperance leads to health wealth happiness and long life A.W.R" medal. I read circa 1880's from one source.

In my book that is a banner find! I'll never understand the numismatic values, I mean how can a Early American Silver with such a low mintage (485,000) not be worth much more? There are ten varieties of this coin, you could possibly have a VERY rare coin. A low mintage like that is already rare, but it could be one of the super rare varieties.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying you should sell it or slab it, just if I found it I would want to know. Here is a link to your coin.

Helix,

It was awesome to see Tinman do the recovery on the capped Bust! I had a good time just getting out with you guys! It was definitely a learning experience. I did find an 1897 IHP last night at a park. Each hunt is a new experience for us rookies! Planning to hit some parks again today, had a few issues with my machine just chattering away last night for no reason...
