Woke up at 4am, called old Jersey girl four hours later so not to wake her. We went to a cornfield permission of mine. I had looked up a old house on historicmapworks.com
Four hours later she found an iron patch as big as a football field. She found four coins, I'll let her tell you what she found.
Good day, new good site, I'll be there tomorrow.Enjoy the pix

Brad

That one lever looking thing looks like a window latch, like what is on a car. You know those old "air conditioning" windows. I found one intact that is made of brass.

Man, I need to get a few Indians before the ground freezes. It has been a lean year for me on those.

The round thing with the cavity ( which probably feels like lead) is most likely a lead cover for the head of a nail. Used the make a sealed contact

I have found these at almost all the really old sites I have hunted. I never knew what they were. I'm still not exactly sure what you mean by "Used the make a sealed contact"?

460 is right. It's the cap for lead-head roofing nails. The lead cap would conform to the metal roofing, sealing around the nail hole, while protecting the head of the nail from rusting. They were nailed on top of the ridges (corrugations).

Haaa that's funny, just goes to show, you can teach an old dog new tricks. I'm a retired commercial roofer, of course I'm not that old that I was using any of these lead caps in my career. I started out in 1981 doing hot tar roofing and coal tar pitch hot roofing. I never in my career ever did any metal roofing.
