What a surprise for me Saturday morning!
Well, earlier this past week my uncle of 75yrs of age passed away from alzheimers. During this week his elder cousin of 82yrs had inquired about me. He and a differant uncle of mine had worked together in the elementary school back in the early 70's when I was a child there. Then 22 yrs ago when I was 17 I taught him a few banjo lessons though he never could quite get the hang of working both hands and fingers together.
So I went to visit him Saturday for awhile and in conversation he said his house is dated 1820, so I went asked permission.
"Oh, you collect coins do ya? Go upstairs and in the dresser in the back bedroom is a cigar box with some coins in it, make me an offer if you'd like. I had more but gave a lot away to family already, not worth much I suppose anyways."
He wasn't to concerned about what was there as long as he could sell them to me he was happy knowing who I was and that I would take care of them. They are officially "family coins". Next time I see him I'll ask where they all came from.
You'll see there's not a lot of silver, too bad but there are few LC's, IH's, Liberty nickels, Mercs, one Barber Half, a nice 1909 VDB at least in fine condition. A few nice old Canadian large cents and other old foreign coins not too bad looking either. I'll just shut up so you can see the pics, front and back images of all. And the old Cigar Box to boot!
Oh, I got nothing detecting his yard except lots of trash.
