Hi all. You think you're nuts? Look what I hunted in this morning lol!

I got permission last week to hunt some new fields, and with the weatherman saying a few inches of snow, I had to go scout a bit. I just got a new Sampson shovel too and wanted to break it in. I am impressed with it. Awesome digger!
When I arrived at the fields, it was really just starting to snow. 2 - 2 1/2 hours later, there was a little over a couple inches of sticky wet stuff. Really made swinging the coil hard to do as it was very heavy and sticking to the stock coil. Finds were definitely not impressive at all, but did find my first bird band if that is what it is.

Sweet finds Dave! You are a true diehard detectorist. The Tenn Trio would have been home in their Snuggie's drinking hot cocoa in that kind of weather. :tongue3:
When you said "bird band" I had something else in mind. :laughing7:
Congrats Buddy!
Happy Thanksgiving.

You should put a plastic bag around your coil so the snow doesn't stick...

Hey Dave you got out buddy, that's all that matters! :occasion14:
Those fields look promising too, bet there's some old silver & coppers hiding there!
The weather from Sunday - Wednesday should be more favourable for detecting.

Have a great Thanksgiving my friend,
Dave

Not a trap tag. They have to have the trappers name and address on them.

I have a feeling that that is a poultry vaccination band, most of them are from the 1930-1950's. They are now made out of plastic, I have found many of them ranging in size and inscription. Really interesting find.

I have found those bands also and thought they were bird bands. I have also found some that were larger so don't know. I've gotten the bug before last season and hunted in similar conditions but I didn't last as long as you did.

Thats why they call it an All Terain unit. I hate the way the snow sticks to the coil and I use the 14" Nel
