ZDD and me.

Had a plan, a simple one, get up early, hunt all day, and get old Silver.
Everything was going according to plan, left before sun up, hunted all day.
In fact didn't quit till this pic. was taken.

Just didn't get any silver, one copper each was all she wrote for coins.
Still good just to get out at this time of year I guess.
Did have me one of those nitro moments when I saw this in a plug.

I just don't find these in fields, but quickly realized just plated, but a keeper to me as is no doubt old.
Ended with an ox knob, and a half dozen buttons.
1 drilled shank type, and
a Nova Scotia Militia button, but this one is different, as they (as I understand) usually have an iron back, this one doesn't. (head scratch) I know some others have found this button, does anyone know about the different backs ?

Any one of those would make my day and in December! Gold!
You have two musket balls, which are on my to find another one list, since my grand son said he wants one!
I have never found an ox knob, yet. Cool buttons too!
Congrats! The silver is out there waiting for you, guaranteed!

Thanks (K) Ms Beep. There is sooo much old stuff in your area all you got to do is get out there, and get it, your ox knob (and BTW this one is not so old) is out there, but again...I won't repeat.

Nice finds Rick...looks like you may have a French Marines button there too!

I think you guys were pretty close to my neck of the woods...familiar geography there! :icon_thumleft:

Well according to IP the shank is too long. I called my last one a "french marine", in early Nov. ... and that's where that got pointed out to me. This button is the same as that one.

Honestly Rick I don't know if the shank length can be relied upon that much for an ID. These buttons were mass produced by hand and there for they all wouldn't be identical, there will be small differences between the buttons so there could easily be ones with different shank lengths. We do know that the French Marines were here during the time period of which most our finds are coming from, and the button is almost identical to the Marine's button in the reference material we have. I would put my money on it being exactly that, a Compagnies franches de la Marine button.
