Started out today with a couple friends hunting a colonial site with no luck, but good company to start a new year. My cousin Brian and I went to a permission site around noon, and the first thing that I dug was a full date 1921 standing liberty quarter. Later in the day I scored my second silver,a 1939 merc. Love them mercs. My cousin ended our hunt with a nice Buffalo. Happy Newyear Everybody. IMG_20150101_114650640.jpg IMG_20150101_122920060.jpg IMG_20150101_122929273.jpg IMG_20150101_125250990.jpg

Very nice finding a slq, and a 1921 to boot. Every time I go out to hunt an older site, I am hoping I will dig one. Every hole I dig, I am looking for that slq. After 3 years now, I am still looking. I remember when I was a kid, walking down the street and looking at one in my hand, that I just collected form a customer. I was born in 1945, and had a paper route, and remember all those Walking Liberty, and Ben Franklins, halfs, and the merc's and the nickels with the big mint mark above Monticello. Now when I dig silver, it brings back memories. I love this sport.

Excellent finds on the slq and the mercury dime. A buffalo nickel is a great find in my book. I've only found 1 slq and the date is unreadable. If I get to go to the coin show later this month, I plan to take it and see if anybody with a microscope can read the date. I doubt it, but it won't hurt to try. HH.

Congrats on the key date SLQ! I collect that series and always look forward to seeing them posted- was lucky enough to pluck a '21 myself a couple of years ago. Hopefully your next one will the 1916! Congrats and continued success to you!

Any SLQ predating 1925 with a date is a tough find , To find an early key is amazing ! I'm still looking forward to finding
my first SLQ. Very Nice !

Whoa! Now that's a nice find. Finding a SLQ is always nice. Finding an earlier one with a date is nicer. Finding a key date is the cat's meow. If you're in a club and they have a finds of the month like mine does you should certainly win the finds of the month in the silver coin category. I'm hitting the banner button too. Way to go!

I personally don't find these as often as the other silver quarters. I'm assuming because of the shorter years of mintage compared to the others. I have more silver Washingtons and Barbers than these. I also seem to have more silver Mercury dimes than Roosevelts. Again, a longer mintage period. Congrats on this beauty.
