WWII USAAF Wings can't find makers mark

I've noticed that I've been very lucky finding some good stuff at the honey hole, just when I think it's run dry it slaps me in the face with a reality check!

The kids where playing their video games so I decided I needed to go out and play mine,lol...

Have you ever gotten a strong clear signal when placing your MD to the side when digging a different signal only to return to it and find something good?! This happens to me a lot and I have to say I am glad I remember to go back and dig it. I found this beauty yesterday...

I cleaned it with electrolysis but can't find a makers mark and what I did find I can't tell what it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy the pic!

Looks like a WWII Army Air Force crewmans pin. On the back, to the right a bit under the eagle on the wing it should be marked sterling. Awesome find! Thanks for sharing!

Aircrew - USAAF, circa 1939-1945 Beverly Craft with palm motif...
This is the closes design I could find on google with the exception of it being a pin back and not a clutch back. There's a lot of different designs but this one matches to a "T" from the Eagles tail to the grapes under the wing and the plain feathers. I took and another pic without flash and appears to have a marking on the left wing but another pic with the flash shows nada/nothing/zeltch ! What do you guys think? Sterling or no Sterling?

It certainly looks good to be the authentic , period piece - I thought I was seeing a faded mark on the upper left (reverse side)
of the pin - where it should be - but I could be seeing things - that is a very nice find - I'd be thrilled .

That's really a nice piece, got your answer on what it is by now, I just wanted to say what a great job the electrolysis did on it. Looks fantastic! Nice find

I have found two AAF wings one s a Gunners and the other is a Navigators missing a wing and both are stamped in the middle. The current issue wings
the USAF uses aren't made from sterling silver but plated.

Hey KS Coyote, thanks for the pic. These wings are authentic, they where found in an old dumpsite which dates from the 1900's to the mid 50's. most of the stuff found at this site is dated. I know they made some wings which were not marked just hoping that this one is faded. i will post the results after i find out if its silver.

Grats on those super-nice wings! I'd be very proud to have those. I spent an entire career in the USAF, and I love the style of the older insignia and wings like that. Traditional. Classy. The new-fangled weirdo wings are kind of lame imho. Glad I was done before they started up with those.

Some of the gov. contractors making WW2 AAF wings and jump wings were not marked, even though they are silver.

I would completely concur with what geologyjohn said. I have found a few WW2 era pins and bars that tested silver but were no marked. I am almost certain that your wings are silver. Congrats!
