Been awhile since i posted on here, these are some fairly recent civil war relic recoveries, a few of the better finds, the breast plate i found in the middle of a field with nothing else of that period anywhere near it, bit boss recovered from a colonial house site that has turned up lots of civil war relics, and the VA button came from another colonial home site, has Mitchell & Tyler Richmond VA back mark.

I like the plate! Amazing that it was overlooked in that relatively vacant area for so long!
So upset that the civil war never came close to where I live. American Revolution on the other hand, Battle of Brooklyn, oh yea. :occasion14:

the original post is a Burnside plate. "JimK" started with a sub-post with a recent plate he found. I am in reference to "JimK"'s plate not being a Burnside. the plate at the top of the thread is a "Burnside" for sure. Congrats to both finders!

Thanks to danimal03 for the good explanations and education on these plates. However I would like to apologize to calmerthanu for hijacking his thread and taking the focus off of his Awesome finds. It was not my intention and I hope a free bump to the top will help make up for it because these are some really cool finds.

Its all good JimK, the sites here for educating people on these finds, i wish i had picture of my GGG uncles burnside breast plate, he was in the 31st maine, we have all his other war time relics he brought home, his musket, cartridge box, belt and buckle bayonet and scabbard and canteen, when i was still a child my grand parents let someone take those things to school as a show n tell item and some jerk kid or maybe ten teacher stole the breast plate so we no longer have that, so i am happy that i have been fortunate enough to dig a burnside plate.

Thanks Danimal for clearing that up.
And back to calmerthanu's great finds. That Virginia button is sweet. Looks like you must have found that one face up. Still a an excellent find.
