1947 Dog Tag & slugs
Did more chainsawing and digging of old dead trees and planting of new trees and shrubs than any MD this weekend. Beautiful weather. Walked down into my woodlot today for a short hunt and found a "NYS Dog Tag 2265[9?] [1?]947". Tin or zinc and pretty badly pitted.
Also, a 12 ga. slug and a really mangled lead bullet or smaller gauge slug. Plus the obligatory shot shells: one older, one recent. I find lots of these on the property.
Guess the loggers, hunters and cattle that frequented here in the past had good pockets. Have yet to find a coin on the property in the not quite a year I've lived here.
