Ever Dug a CW "Blanket Pin"-My First & Dman's Colonial Relics

When I hunted a U.S. Camp today after the snow melted, I dug an iron pin that I had seen in Howard Crouch's relic book but I couldn't remember what it was called. It's called a "Blanket Pin". The enhanced F75 is still a winner in my book.
The iron relics (and thimble) were dug by Dman on Monday at a Colonial site. HH, from Doug & Q.

Now there's one I've never seen before Quindy,a blanket pin! What a cool relic! We went digging today but didn't have much luck. Steve did find a big stirrup though, his first. I dug what I think is a CW tent peg.

Looks like a good start on your 2015 tally. I would imagine those pins don't come up very often and yours looks to still have some plating. Good job on the ID as well. Your posts help me through the winter!

Nice finds Quindy. We had to cancel our trip yesterday due to weather. I almost went to my wooded site alone but decided to stay home and clean old relics. Planning on a hunt next Saturday though. Congrats on the finds and getting your ladder.

Great find Q. I've never seen one of those before. Ya gotta love Crouch's CW relic book. It has come in handy soooo many times for me too.
I'm just glad it didn't turn out to be Dman's diaper pin. :laughing7:
Congrats Guys!

Quindy, that's a cool find! I hope you can clean and preserve it to prevent any further damage. I found one several years ago, but mine was not in good shape like yours. Dman's thimble is a good find too; what's the iron piece in the top left? Way to go!

Q, I don't believe I have seen one of those before, definitely a keeper! Is Dman's thimble an "open top" one?

I hope so too Cru. I gave it a good brushing with a brass brush, washed it, let it dry, and gave it several coats of rust converter that BB recommends. The Rust Converter has done a good job on relics we have tried it in. HH, Q.

bit
Breezie, we think it's a bridle piece. We have dug several snaffle bits in the area. The site was a picnic area and a sorghum mill & Union CW camp were close by. HH, Q.

Howard Crouch passed away last year DI2. I wish I could have met him at a show or hunt because that's the best relic book printed to date as you know. HH, Q.
