Ok folks, I recovered my coin that I thought was a 1reale! It was in the floorboard of my truck, underneath the floor mat. Wow! Of all the places. After lightly cleaning, I found it to be an 1805 drapped bust dime! My oldest US silver coin to date. Holy moly! It is bent slightly, and worn, but if you saw where i found it you would be surprised it wasn't worse. I almost fainted! Hope the pics aren't too fuzzy. My iPad flipped the pics. Sorry.

My dad bought a used car way back in the mid 60's. He was giving it a through cleaning and reaching deep into the back seats. Then he pulls out a California Bear Gold Dollar coin in a plastic case. It was a real little coin but solid gold I believe. He gives it to me and says go put it on the table... I'll look it up later. Don't know whatever happened to it...?

At least they're rightside up now! Now sure how many varieties there are for 1805, but when clearer pics are posted, there's a chance it could be fully ID'd. Looks to be roughly AG, and has a wonderful color to it.

Well, with all the coins shops in Florida, dealers are bound to lose something in the woods sooner or later.

But seriously, Florida was settled really early on. I would imagine detectorists there are fighting against the sandy/swampy soil and a lack of undeveloped land to detect in parts of the state, but the early coins are hiding there for sure. Just have to find them. Then lose them and find them again. Great story!

They actually didn't mint flowing hair dimes. But, it does fit the Draped Bust Large Eagle design perfectly.

Donneybrook , You are mistaken , it is in fact a Draped Bust piece , not the Flowing Hair type .
