Hello all,
We had a nice Saturday (a little windy though) and went out to the Civil War camp again. It started out a little slow but we finished strong. We were finding the usual wire and square nails and I did find about 15 horse shoe nails in one area. I will start off with my finds (first pic). I gota nice 3 ringer, another 3 ringer that has had the tip rammed down. Three colt .44 ( I think) pistol bullets, a odd looking tear drop shaped bullet (smaller than the others) and another bullet with no grooves slightly larger that the .44 bullets, two pieces of lead and what I think is a buck ball. Two Spencer cartridges (?) a small brass disk, no holes or markings (very thin) and two brass cases with a “U” head stamp (I believe these are post war).
As usual my wife out did me. She got five 3 ringers (one has been pulled). Seven pistol bullets (one has a cut mark in it from a knife) what looks like a carved 3 ringer and a buck ball, three pieces of lead, a Spencer cartridge (?), a percussion cap, the hook of a J-hook, 4 button backs (and a couple pieces of the front) and a couple pieces of brass. Any info that you can give on these finds please feel free to say so as we are just learning.
Thanks for looking

JimK

Nice pics. And great bunch of relics. The iron looks like the same stuff I find in my cw camps. Nuts and horse tack. HH!

Thanks for the replies. I know most of this stuff is old hat to a lot of the folks here but we are still in the easily excited stage. Civil War hunting is something that I have wanted to do since I was a kid with my 40.00 Bounty HunterI back in the early 70's. So this is a very big deal for me to uncover this stuff. Even one bullet is a dream come true for me.

WOW that would be cool. It iwould be my first CS find. Though this was a Union camp from what I understand. But who knows. That is why I post stuff here. I learn something new every time I do. :hello2:

I am not a expert, but that is what it looks like to me.In allot of cases it is not uncommon to find C.S. relics in a union occupied place or vice versa.

OK, after poking around on the internet when I should be working I think that maybe (just maybe) I have figured out what the brass piece is from. I think that it was part of a suspender/strap buckle. What do you guys think? Yes, no or maybe?
