Got out to a new site I had gotten permission for last year but hunters were all over this place until a week or so ago. A bit of investigating showed there was a small site on a hill which didnt produce a lot but enough to satisfy my urge. Time was not kind to this stuff. I spent 4.5 hrs here and might go for another half day at some point. The mercury dime was right on top of the hill and was reading 92 on the Deus and sounded SWEET! Man I really thought I had a really old silver for a few seconds.

Big congrats on the cobb and seal matrix. Nice assortment of colonial goodies there. I would definitely give it more than just 1/2 a day when you go back. At least for me those sites don't come easy.

Great finds, CP! I agree with Screwy - Definitely spend more than half a day when you go back. I dont know if it weird or not, but whenever I find something really good, I go into "Hoover Mode," where I simple dig everything until I am sure the area is exhausted. Heck, I'd even go back in the Spring when the rain soaks the ground and its wicked soft and wet.

Really excellent finds, congrats! Regarding that cut cob, do you know what it weighs? I really can't tell what it's fractional denomination it is from here, 1/4 real? 1/8 real? After seeing that 1/8th slice of a 3 polker (which you provided the masterful ID of), these tiny cut silvers have really piqued my interest.

What a beautiful cob. That baby saw a lot of circulation after it was cut.

That's a fat little chuck of silver - great find! Do you have an any pics of the bottom of the seal? Can you see any markings?

Its a tiny thing at .85 grams. Must be a 1/4 cut of a 1 reale. Def one of the smallest cut silvers I ever found. About 10 or 15 years ago I found a 1/4 cut of a 1720s pistareen and this is about the same size.

Man, your killing it with that old stuff! The Merc almost seems out of place. At least it's an older one. Nice cut silver by the way!

Yeah, I took off this winter specifically to metal detect. But the weather is worse than I have ever seen. Doesnt help that i am twice as old as when I used to hunt this hard. And now I hear we got 3 or 4 nights in the single digits coming up? We dont generally have frozen ground around here but this upcoming cold snap will dang near ensure that happens! Im going tomorrow with or without my wife. Sorry sweetie...got to swing before I cant. lol
