Found today, 2/11/15, while picking. I think it is a Prehistoric Megalodon Sharks Tooth but not sure. Your guess or feedback welcome. 100_6019.jpg 100_6023.jpg 100_6028.jpg 100_6037.jpg 100_6039.jpg

I don't think it is shark tooth. The bottom of a tooth is usually shiney and the root (under the gum) is porous. Your whole piece is porous. Google "megalodon tooth" and you will see what I mean. I don't know what it is... sorry, but it sure looks like a fossil from some animal. GL&HH!

Im not an authority, but Im going to go on record stating that is without a doubt, a fossilized sharks tooth. I've learned to comfortably trust my instinct, and I'm usually right, even about things I know close to nothing about

I don't think it's a tooth. Looks like a bivalve shell to me. Like a muscle or clam. Where did u find it? Those teeth don't just turn anywhere and are specific to certain geologic formations.

You may want to post it in the "Geological forms" (7th down from here) in the Fossil category, they can tell ya.
Nice find by the way!

By the way, I've just added you to El Padron's banner, that is one of the coolest things I've ever seen posted here.

It is not a sharks tooth... I am certain of that.
What it is though is a mystery... and VERY cool.
May be fossilized part/tail of turtle is my guess.

Please please just look at Google images. Thus is absolutely NOT a megalodon tooth.

I have a doctorate in ichthyology... just saying...

Didn't have much time to look but it could be a type or related to a horseshoe crab. It said they are not commonly found fossilized the way you have. I may be wrong so I'm looking forward to see if you solve it. Cool find! [emoji2] ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1423692030.837812.jpg

Ok, I stand corrected.... It's still going up on El Padron's banner.

DSC01102.JPG DSC01103.JPG my wife seen the picture and said "I've got one like that"! sure enough it is exactly but on bottom it is a little thicker and has like two slits along sides. Its not a tooth and I don't believe its a shell. I'll try and take a pick and post..got from myrtle beach last year.

I just added two more photos. If it's not a tooth, could it be a tongue of something?
