Wind, cold and a little afternoon sun made this one of my coldest hunts in Baltimore, but I was dressed for the weather and managed to "hang in there". Part way through the day, one of our Club member's, John, came by and we had some time to compare notes on the day and our finds. Spring's looking pretty good right now. I'll take 50 degrees and sunny.:unhappysmiley:

Soil is black and leaves a black residue on older coppers, even turns silver a dull gray. Good news is that it rubs off with baking soda and salt. Coins that look crappy end up ok as long as corrosion hasn't set in.

Crossed Cannon

A fellow detectorist considered that these may be military. This particular set has a threaded post on the back, which may date it to WW1. Not certain. Looked like the letter "X" to me when dug, bit on close inspection, the cannons became evident.
