Went back to the old "hunted out park" with a fellow tnet member. Wasn't long after we arrived and I got an iffy midtone on the AT Pro reading 8 inches deep. Dug a plug and approximately seven inches down on one side of the hole I see a coin on edge. Pulled it out and I could clearly identify it as a 1912 v nickel. Felt like an eternity waiting to see if it had the "S" mintmark. Haha! Too bad it's sooo toasted! BUT, I bet I'll never find another one. Pretty cool!

Toasted or not, it is a heck of a good find. I hope the "hunted out" parks here will yield that kind of bounty.

I’ve used about all modern ones but right now: CTX 3030, White’s MXT Pro, XP Deus, Vaquero, White’s TRX

That is in decent shape for a dug nickel that is 102 years old. I bet it would still be worth $50 or more just to fill an album. I have found my fair share of nickels in hard hit areas, because they get "cherry picked" for the high sounds. My friend has found two V nickels, a war nickel and a Buffalo at this one church we have detected that has be hit hard for years. I've found 6 Jefferson nickels ranging in dates from the 30s to the 50s there.

Yeah I'm sure someone would buy it if I put it up for sale. I think I'll just keep it to show in my shadow box of finds from that site. I actually like digging the mid tones on older areas. Interesting finds most of the time!

The V Nickle has been avoiding me.. Nice Save.

I've only found four total in my years detecting here in washington state. This park has given me two of them in the past couple weeks. The other was a 1910.
