I dug this at an old home site
I dug 4 old coins yesterday 1746-1766-1770? 1816 and over 10 buttons
and tonight I dug this coin and 2 musket balls and 3 buttons.
I have been trying out a new way of digging an area we have already hammered
we dig a large area down a foot or more and detect the soil and It has been working great.
Lots of iron masking going on for sure.
I have been getting tonnes of square nails with these finds.

Any Id on the Mary coin would be great
Thanks
Don

That sure is a hot site you have found, even though you have to dig down a foot to get to the goodies.

The first coin, looks like it might be a token. But that is only a guess, I don't know much about coins that old. But I bet PBK, will come up with an answer.

Good Luck, wish I could come and help you dig out some of those old coins.

Don, that coin doesn't appear to be a hammered coin. I've found about a dozen hammered coins myself, they are very thin. This is why I do not believe it to be Mary, but rather Elizibeth I. I'll keep looking when I get a bit of time. Nice finds though, congrats!

The 1766 is a really neat counterfeit Irish halfpenny. It looks like you found the kind of site we all dream about!

Great looking stuff! I can only imagine what this stuff would look like cleaned up.
If you decide to clean any of it; please show some of the "after" pictures. I know I'd love to see them. Bluezman

Agreed the 1766 is counterfeit Irish Halfpenny.

The coin with the shield & crown above it is a Dutch Copper coin of 1700s.

Cool coins and buttons. That's a lot of work digging that deep just to start detecting! But obviously the rewards are there.

Keep us posted on this site. Thanks for sharing.
