OK, We got out on Sunday to our Union camp site and found some more great stuff and even more “what is it” finds than normal. Please, if you see anything that you can identify let us know. Trying to determine what is period and what is not is difficult but we are learning. We managed 13 bullets of various sizes and one pistol ball. One of the .44 pistol bullets has a C or G on the base (?). We also found an epaulet key, what I believe to be a cartridge box finial, two rivets, the top to a J-hook, a button back, some camp lead, a brass thing with a square hole through it (any idea on this one?). An old pocket knife (how old?) but the best find was a cool eagle “I” coat button that my wife found that still has some of the gold on it. It is intact with shank. The odd thing is that it is flat and looks like it is supposed to be that way. Did they have them flat like that or did it get smashed? We have not got the back mark from it yet. We also found some iron junk, wire and nails as usual. Thanks for looking. Any and all help is appreciated.
