I've hit up a few estate sales in my area lately. I usually the youngest one there and the dirtier and
more packed a garage is - the better. Under, behind, on top of and the hard to get to places seem to be
where the best of the lost/forgottens are hiding. I've had some pretty good discoveries over the years,
but I just signed up on the site and thought I'd post my most recent find - '46 & '51 dime & '53 quarter.
They were in the can, which was wedged behind an old, immovable work bench. Luckily, I had my "MacGyver"
flashlight that extends to a few feet and has a magnet on the other end!
Not bad for $.25, including the piggy-bank....
I just thought of this - I guess technically, I purchased these. So, do you guys still count them as "found"?

The coins are sweet, but the old beer can bank is just plain killer!

I "think" that most people on TNet only count "dug" silver as found, but who really knows? I guess some people count their Coinstar finds too. If I were you, I would do whatever makes me happy!

You didn't buy the coins, you found them in the can bank you bought...so you found them.

A find is a find especially when there are 3 silver at one time. just like a pocket spill or cache in my book.

Sounds like a 'find' to me! Only old beer can I ever ran across only had beer in it...but I guess that's not necessarily a bad thing! Nice find! :occasion14:

great find. here's a site that gives a little info on flat top beer cans, and might help give you and approximate age. I think it's from the 50's Flat Top Beer Cans

Thanks all...
Yes, the can was a nice pick up - as is. But the coins, certainly a bonus....
When I picked it up, I did hear some rattling, but didn't take a look until I got back to my car.
I've seen enough people draw (unwanted) extra attention to whatever they are looking at, etc - and from what I've
witnessed anytime an estate sale worker sees something shiny, it's straight into their pocket to "check it out later".

Jewelerguy,
Thanks for the info/site, pretty interesting....
I'm going to have to create some more "empties", just so I can look them up! :)

I find most of my silver at garage sales. Usually old sterling spoons and stuff. Definitely a find!

We only count WHOLE dug coins unless they are really old cut silvers.

He is referring to this killer Walking Liberty Half Dollar that I dug up the other day. It is just exactly like a cut Spanish silver, however, is just a little newer, but none the less counts as a silver coin.

Sorry about hi-jacking your thread!

PS: This coin was found using a detector and dug from the Earth!

I guess if WE were walking across an empty lot and a couple of gold coins were laying on the ground WE might not count em but I dang sure would. And CT I'd count that too.
