I guess this is a "new - old" permission. This was the 1st place I ever hunted. Changed hands several times. New owner gave me permission and pretty cool to walk this old ground again. I'll let Mudduck tell you about his day, couple of firsts for him. Digging Buddy had the coolest find of the day. Check out this Parrot Shell (I think) which blew apart, but the brass plate kept these pieces all together. Never seen anything like it.

He also got over 30 bullets, two fuses, .69 cal Belgium bullet, a colonial shoe buckle and some honkin' big shrapnel frags.

DSCN0651.JPG DSCN0658.JPG DSCN0659.JPG DSCN0660.JPG

I got far less quantity, but a couple of quality finds. New York Cuff button, an old key, and has anybody seen a knapsack hook with the "button" positioned like this? I never have, and it doesn't appear to be bent. Couple of pulled bullets among about a dozen total, and a couple of iron shirt buttons.

Good hunt PW. I can't say I've seen a "J" hook that didn't immediately taper down but there were several manufacturers. WTG, Q.

There is always something left and you just proved it. Do you think the newer machine was the difference? Nice hunt you had!

Love that old hoe, might be a Confederate E-tool. IMO, no place is ever dug out, just diminished in returns for our efforts. Cheers!!

You got my attention with that buckle and hoe. Has to be an 18th century site nearby. Hopefully you can discover its location.

Wow, that's not worked out at all. Quite a bunch of finds dug. I agree with Bill, there has to be a Colonial site nearby. Have you ever dug colonial relics at this site in the past?

Best Wishes,

Buck

Sorry I took so long answering your questions, but here goes -

TnMountains - No doubt, the better machines made a huge difference, but learned-patience and experience helped too, I'm sure! The last time I hunted that site was 1975! I was 15!!

RebelYeller - I agree 100%. If you'll kindly send me your plate, I will see that they are displayed together!

ChiefDanaho - I hunted that site back in the day with a modified GI mine detector, and later with the classic Metrotech! (Tesoro Tejon now...)

Buckle boy & Bill D. - Have never seen Colonial relics from this spot before. I know of no home sites from that era near there. So that old hoe is a big deal? And the shoe buckle? I am Colonial-ignorant.
