There does not seem to have been any French involvement in the War of 1812 in North America
In 1812 France was at war with Russia

War of 1812 was with the US and Britain ..........., and Britain was at war with the French

I agree/ I think it is re enactment. It is the wrong shank and the patina is not nearly white enough.

The 13th Bourbonnois Regiment where part of the French Army under Comte de Rochambeau.About 6000 French troops landed in Newport R.I. July 1780 they also took part in the battle of Yorktown after the battle they wintered in Williamsburg Va.then returned to New England,could have traveled through your town on the way .

Nope..Modern reenactment. .
I have found a bunch of them at a old site that runs reenactments every year..
I was super excited as well with my first, till IP straighten me out. Lol.

Regardless of the back not being birdcage shank, the 1 in 13 is not like any in Troiani's book on Rev War buttons, the 1's looked like I not 1.
