Best capped dime I've ever seen

Did a 2 hour hunt this after noon in a field I know of.not alot of targets but we'll worth it an 1830 capped dime that I think is the small 10c looks like it may grade about ef40 or a au50. It's the first silver capped coin I ever got.only rubbed it lightly with my fingers to clean it when it first came out. Thanks for looking

Well as far as coming out of dirt is certainly is a beauty.
It doesn't seem to have scratches, but as a silver it is always best not to rub them out of the ground, silver is pretty soft and scratches easily.
Has very nice eye appeal, and a very decent value, NICE FIND, CONGRATS.

My one and only capped coin was a half dime, in G 4 condition, I agree with EF/XF 40 (at least from the pics. but again I see no noticeable scratches) Nice find.

And yes the field was worth it, you don't need a lot of finds when you get a "good" find.

The way a coin like that is judged is mostly by three things:

1) The hair above the brow....check
2) Can't think of the thingy on the garment directly below the ear and hair, kinda looks like a bow... should be strong....check
3) The rim...those little beads and how well defined the rim is...double check.

Now, on the reverse the visibility of the eagle's eye is important and the tips of the wings and all mottos to include the lines in the shield. That coin has got to be....Mint State 60..possibly higher, but no less. As long as there are no scratches, gouges, etc. you really can't field find something any better than that. I would have it professionally cleaned that way no mint luster is removed because I believe that it must have been dropped not long after it left the mint. If a certified company cleans it the grade can go up....Mint State 63 perhaps.
