Union buckle

This is a stamped buckle that looks like an 1851 buckle. Lookout Mt Relics web site says that some people call in an 1872 buckle but that many have been found in VA Union sites.
What do you experts have to say about it.

No expert,but it looks like a 1851 officers sword belt plate to me.The only things throwing me off is the left end and back,also looks particularly thin?Someone should be along to help you out.nice find

My first thought was that it is too thin to be a buckle, but there are three spots of lead on the back that could correspond with a loop and hook. I also found a picture of a thin one that was so deteriated that the edges were falling off.

Check out my picture by my username. Mine is a little different than yours, but it is also stamped brass, & I was told it was from the Indian Wars of around 1890. They made very slight changes as the years went on, but those changes can tell you what era it was from. Found mine in Oklahoma a few years back.
