Interesting coin,
The ship on the reverse does look like a Templar ship.

I did do a very fast search on the term "Templar coin". And none of the coins I saw looked like yours
BUT !!
Look here
Strange New England

And here,,,scroll to the "Westford boat stone"
The Westford Knight, the Newport Tower, and Related Sites

The ship looks VERY much like the depicted ships on these carvings.

Not roman. I would have to look. I used to study roman coins the past years because i was living in Europe and found a few. I will check tomorrow. Great find!

Mirage 83 is right. The M AND the cross with the star and crescent is definitly the symbols of the Byzantine Empire. I am confused because usutaly you have the effigy of the emperor on one side.. I would have to look further..
