Started late at 11 Am, decided to re-hash a couple of the better sites from last year.

Still some snow in cold country too.

French hill did not give up any more so on to another. Never would have expected to find so many tagets on such a small, and hunted a few times already site. A few, and I mean not less than 5 coppers were on top of the ground from the last fall plow. Thank you Mr. Plow.

Here's the "lot".

IMG_1507.JPG

Dave's included an Irish, I believe was a GEO III

IMG_1508.JPG

Mine included a 1807 with readable date.

IMG_1509.JPG

One I thought was a half cent turns out to be a 1813 trade & navagation farthing, pretty scarce.

I may try to clean this one a bit.

Another Conder token. Couple GEO IIIs
Most are toast, but I didn't care as I set a new record with thirteen coppers in a day, and a good one is coming soon.

Dave also found the other half of a nut cracker, early one. What are the odds ?
And a decent navy button, add the pic. when you get it cleaned up Dave. Soon too (laughing)

5 hours, after a looong winter was a marathon hunt for me, and I am pretty beat.

Good luck out there.

20 coppers - man that's crazy!! Was that some kind of scattered cache? What a great start to the season. And I bet a few more are hiding under those snowbanks. Can't believe any of that white stuff is still left. Good luck when you guys make a return visit.

Very well could have been a cache, lost track of just how many copper coins came from that particular site, but 50 wouldn't be an exaggeration, only one silver (2R) in say a 60-70 foot square. The place was occupied for a quite a long time though, and as was pointer out only have to loose one or two a year for them to add up.
The coins may have been hid through out the house, then spread around when the house finally rotted away. Lots of glass / brick, and the iron very heavy.

I'd take just 1 Copper or LC even if toasted.

A great day indeed.

I can't make out the all the words on the back but I am sure I will when I have more time.
View attachment 1152896

And then the colonial nut cracker. I found the first half last year and today the other half. I will make a complete post when I have them all cleaned up.

Holy smokes! You were copper mining, not detecting! Is it just me or is the shaft on that detector 6 feet long! It's touching the ground 5 feet away lol

Thanks Dirtwisher.

I've had a few good days in the fields, but 13 is almost "copper mining".

Dave likes his "shaft long" or long shaft...please no laughing folks.
