At a garage sale last week, I found this jug of pennies for sale. I paid $20 for it and the seller had to use a two wheeler cart to get it to my car. When I got it home and horsed it to the scales, it weighed in at 95 pounds!

There was approximately $156 in Lincoln cents, 1-25¢, 34-10¢, 7-5¢, and some foreign coins. I culled out 39 wheaties. Not bad for a $20 purchase!

The zinc pennies are only good to spend, but sort out anything from 1959 to 1981 and hold onto. They are pure copper. Each one is worth 3 cent in copper. One the penny stops being minted they will be even better. Of course you know the deal with the wheat ear cents. Great find!

Some people just don't get it. That's probably more money they lost at the garage sale than what they made, and it was already money in their hand. :)

That is a GREAT find.......it would be a very good idea to keep/save the 95% copper cents dated before 1982, roll the zinc cents and cash them in.
Good Luck on your future garage sales......my wife and I go almost every Friday and/or Saturday, and have not made any major scores on coins, but always looking.....thanks for the pictures.

Nice score! Like the others have stated, sort the Copper Cents from the Copper coated Zinc Cents and when done, start searching each and everyone for Errors and Varieties. By the way, Copper Cents were made up until about mid-year of 1982, so keep these as well and sort all 1982 Cents from the others as these are collectible in full sets of all 1982 Copper and 1982 Copper coated Zinc Cents. There are even Small Date and Large Date Varieties in both and some of these individual coins are collectible on their own. To separate the 1982 Copper Cents from the 1982 Copper coated Zinc Cents, it is best to weigh each coin and their' weights should be at or close to 3.11 grams and 2.5 grams respectively. Below are two links with information and pics to help you sort the Small Date and Large Date Varieties and they both include information on other Varieties as well.
