Well after a long and brutal winter I finally got in the water for a dive. This was the first year since 1990 that we haven't been able to get in the water during the winter. Anyway enough wining, 4 of us got out today for a bottle dive and we did really well.
Among the finds that we got up were an intact feathered edge plate, most likely from the 19th cent.

A beauty of a clay pipe, (one of my finds)

A "Dr. Cumming's Vegetine" bottle ( 1870s - 1900, a blood purifier)

And some other great little do-dads including some 50 Cal. casings.

I like the insitu pic. Visability was good. I'm guessing no too deep with that amount of light ?

Glad you finally got your water dig.

I got more land.

Maybe all those icebergs were doing a little dredging up of things for you!

Nice finds! Congrats! The pipe is super cool with it's long slender stem.
You wasted no time bringing up goodies! WTG!

Hey Rick, yea the vis. was as good as it gets for the harbor, 60-70ft deep and a chilly 34*F
Looking forward for another land hunt buddy.

Your right, we don't usually find them that long. As the 19th Cent. wound down the pipes got shorter and the bowls got larger.
I haven't gauged the opening yet to date it but when I get a chance I will. My guess is from the mid to late 1700s.

Great assortment of bottles, but the pipe is a great find intact. Just imagine the air was blue when the sailor dropped it overboard-then again maybe he gave it up. :)

Great finds! I love the complete clay pipe! Looks like you had good visibility too. One spot I dive completely blacks out due to silt once I start rummaging around then its all by feel only.

I know what your talking about Steve, all our fresh water here is black and when we are bottle diving sometimes we are reaching into the silt a good 2 ft. and then it's mud diving. This spot we usually go in the winter has allot of current which keeps the silt down and we drift dive with a surface tender in a boat. Safest way to do it.

That was a very productive dive Dave. I know it felt good to get back in the water. BTW - what kind of site are you diving at? And why so many whole plates. That just seems a bit unusual to me, but what do I know???
