Silver fishscale, ring....and a horse, and I don't mean a toy horse!

The fishscale was probably a good 7 inches deep, and I nicked it argh! Oh well. The little ring was only a couple feet away, so I figure it's probably pretty old.

Notice the buckles in the bottom right of the group shot, they were all in a one foot area. I'm pretty sure there was more metal in the hole, but I stopped digging when I pulled up pieces of bone.

An elderly lady here once asked my wife if I ever "found the horse buried on the golf course" haha! I didn't know this until I mentioned it to my wife when I got home. Turns out when this course started, her father used a horse drawn mower back in the 1930's. After many years of service, when the horse died, they thought it fitting to bury him on the golf course.

There is still leather in the buckles, and it looks like it could be some sort of horse tack. Being found with the bones makes me think it's the horse from the story. At any rate, I'm going to return the pieces to the hole. I think we are going to put a small marker there telling the story. Just one more quirky thing to make our tiny town even more quirky haha!

Nice little fishy, even tho you knicked it. We've all been there. Adds character lol. Pretty cool story about the horse. Kudos to you for putting the buckles back. I would do the same. Good karma for you!

I wasn't sure about that horse find of yours, I'm sure you'll stay away from that area in the future.
Good to see your silver streak continue!

Seeing as I nicked the fishy, and it's pretty black, I might do some electrolysis for fun.

Yeah the horse story is crazy lol

Thanks...it would be seven silver hunts in a row if it hadn't been for one lousy hunt.

Always like finding fishies, is it 1904 ? Edwards are hard to come by...any denomination.

It's a GeorgeV, 1914. Edwards really are hard to find, I'm still looking for my first for 2015.

I never stop being amazed at what we dig up when we are out in the fields and woods , but buckles off a dead horse buried in the golf course . LOL we cant make stuff like this up because truth is usually stranger then fiction . That's a pretty unique find right there and good karma for you returning the buckles to their proper place
