Hey all. I did some detecting at my hot spot this evening. This spot has given up 30+ silver coins, 100's of wheats, lots of indian heads, and tonight I was going really slow through the woods with my Fisher CZ70 Pro. Got a whisper of a signal. Tried digging with my hand digger and there was a huge root in the way so I grabbed the big digger out of the truck and went to work.

8 inches down under that root I found an ancient copper tanged knife. 3000-7000 years old. Made my night for sure. :)

Very nice recovery on the copper knife, some would just trashed such a find not knowing what it actually was and now it's a save, it'll display well.

Good find. I have read that there was a large segment of the "Copper Culture" in Michigan. Tony

Very cool, I hope to add a couple of Copper Culture artifacts to my collection one day. It is not far of a drive to copper country for me.

2.5-3" is very small for a knife.

Not for the copper culture.

A coupla years back I found a copper celt, which is basically an axe blade from the copper culture. The one I found was about 6 inches long. I have seen celts that are a few inches, to over a foot. I think the just made what they needed. If a 2.5-3 inch knife was getting a particular job done, why waste the valuable copper unless you absolutely needed to. It might have been a blade for more detailed meat processing.
