Cufflinks

found these today at a mid 1700s to early 1800s house site that I've been searching this week....house burnt around 1820... was wondering if anyone has seen this type of attachment before and if this type of attachment is from the period the house was there or post date it? Thanks!

The earlier cuffs from the 18th century are octagonal, I'd put your set early to mid 19th century. Fantastic find!

Interesting set of cufflinks. The loop is unusual for 18th century or early 19th century cufflinks. The links look like 1830s one piece flower buttons.

The house burnt in 1820 though, Steve. So the 1830 time frame is probably not right. I bet they are very late 1790s.

Also to take note, cufflinks went out of fashion in the very early 19th century. Probably around 1802 or so.

Kirk, I have see oval cufflinks with General Andrew Jackson on them. The oval, wire loop linked cufflinks were popular from about 1780 to 1820 or so. The stud type cufflink came into fashion afterward, I have found them on civil war sites. Cufflinks are still in style today. I don't know where you came up with 1802 bro.

I have a set of cuff links. They were bought last year. Guess I am old school. I love the set you have. I have no idea of age but must be good metal for chain to stay intact.
